I've gotten past row 1 but row 2 is confusing.

Row 2: Ch 1, (sc, ch 3, sc) in 1st ch-3 sp, insert hook into same ch-3 sp (same ch-3 sp last sc was worked in) and pick up a lp, insert hook into next ch-3 sp and pick up a lp, yo and draw through all 3 lps on hook, ch 3, sc in same ch-3 sp (same ch-3 sp that last lp was picked up in), *insert hook into same ch-3 sp (same ch-3 sp that last sc was made in) and pull up a lp, insert hook into next ch-3 sp and pull up a lp, yo and draw through all 3 lps on hook, ch 3, sc in same ch-3 sp (same ch-3 sp that last lp was picked up in), rep from * across, turn--- 59 ch-3 sps

Is there an easier way to read/write this row? I'm getting a big bunch of stitches and it doesn't look right.

you sc, ch 3, sc in the first sp, then
you are doing a sc dec with the same sp and the next, ch 3, then

sc in the same sp (same one the second sc of the sc dec was made with), then
sc dec using same sp and next sp, ch 3

you repeat the last 2 lines of what i wrote over and over across the row, in the last sp just do the sc in the same sp.

i'm having problems with the edging, but only when i get to the foundation row, it won't lay flat. i'm sort of still a beginner with crochet so not sure what i should try.

I would try skipping some sts. Count how many sts you have now, and see if you can make less. I would try going down by increments of 10. I take it that it is coming out too ruffly, right? Then you will need less stitches. If it is buckling, as if it is tightening, then you will need more stitches. But it sounds like you may have too many. Let me know how this works out. Just gradually make less sc across that foundation row.

Also, if the opposite side if laying flat, count how many sts you made across there, and then make the same number across the foundation row. Let me know how this works out

much better, thankyou! it's laying flat now. i think i was also putting the stitches into the wrong part of the foundation row. oops.

anyway, finished now, hope my new lil niece or nephew loves it as much as i do. it's a lovely pattern, will have to make a bigger blanket for myself now

Yay That is wonderful! I am so glad it is laying flat for you =) In the next update, I will have to put that note in the pattern just in case anyone else has that problem
