yarn and amount

yarn and amount

Postby KRGoldy » Tue Mar 01, 2011 12:46 pm

I am going to make this and I only did a swatch for the retesting and I used just scrap yarn that I had. What yarn is good to use for this afghan that isn't too expensive? How much yarn does it take? I just have the download version that we tested.

Hmmm, I posted on this, but it must have gotten lost.

I am doing a couple of these right now using Bernat Baby Sport in the extra lg skein. Each skein is 12.5 oz, with over 1200 yds. I bought mine at JoAnn's and used a coupon, so I got it for somewhere around $5.00. I think one skein will work for the smallest size.

I am also making this right now... I used the Bernat Baby sport also, the one that has 957 yards and it takes all of one and some of another...

I have done AOTS in sport, dk, and worsted. It looks good in all 3, but DK is my favorite; sport takes too long and worsted is pretty thick for a baby blanket.

I have a twin size of this in the works right now. I'm using Caron Simply Soft Heather. There's 250 yards per 5 oz. skein. Got mine from joann.com when they had their 30% off sale w/free shipping awhile back. Paid $2.61 per skein. I love the softness of this yarn and the thickness when worked up is perfect (not too bulky for a big blanket, but still warm enough to do the job).
